This Chateauneuf du Pape is young but already round, fruity and very pleasant on the palate.
Its color is a pleasure to behold and the tears are already abundant.

Order of 6 bottles arrived with a kind note from the owner (not often, thank you).
The wine is very Chateauneuf-like, still a little young,
but the ripe, smoky notes really appealed to two guests (including me), while one was a little less appreciative of the wine's power (she'd just drunk a 1970 Rhenish Riesling, and the transition was fatal).

The appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape is part of the region of Vallée du Rhône from France which include Château Fortia and its 5 cuvées. Spread over The Rhone Valley and its rich, complex terroirs. The region is divided into two distinct subregions: Northern Rhone (known as Rhône Septentrional) and Southern Rhone (Rhône Méridional). In the former we find strong wines in beautiful colours with warm, spicy notes, produced by vineyards that stretch 4,700 ha along the Rhone. The latter, with an area of 71,000 ha, is much more important, and this is evident of course in its annual production of red, rosé and white wines quite unlike those of the Northern Rhone., this region is 3 million hectolitres per year of red wines, rosés, dry and sparkling white wines, and natural sweet wine..
