Clos des Chênes is Volnay's largest premier cru and lies between the Taille Pieds premier cru and the Monthelie border. The Clos des Chênes terroir contains a high percentage of limestone and produces an elegant, fine wine. Half of Xavier Monnot's 2-acre plot was planted in 1936, the other half in 1978. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in 30 to 35% new French oak.
