The winemaker

Laura Catena, a biologist and physician trained at Harvard and Stanford, joined the illustrious family estate, Bodega Catena Zapata, in 1996 as research director. Two years later, she saw the potential of the few old vines scattered around the Uco Valley (in Gualtallary, Tupungata, La Consulta and El Cepillo) and founded Lucas Wines in 1998. The aim: to build relationships of trust with the winegrowers, to recover the fruit of their old vines and to produce a short range of wines that are out of the ordinary and, above all, unique in the country. To achieve this, the company relies on the expertise of Luis Reginato, one of Argentina's leading specialists in high-altitude vineyards, who has been working with the company for over 20 years. The results are impressive: regularly ranked in the Wine Spectator's top 100, the wines are acclaimed every year by the critics (James Suckling, Tim Atkin, Wine Enthusiast...). What makes them different? The intensity and juiciness of the fruit, but above all their astonishing freshness.
