The winemaker

For over 160 years, Tyrrell's has been one of Australia's leading family wineries, with vineyards in their historic home from Hunter Valley in New South Wales to Heathcote in Victoria. Run by fourth-generation family member Bruce Tyrrell and fifth-generation family members Jane, John and Chris, Tyrrell's is home to some of Australia's most award-winning wines. The Hunter Valley is home to some of the oldest ungrafted vines in the world, having been spared the phylloxera epidemic that wiped out the great vineyards of Europe in the 19th century. In the region, there are eleven blocks of vineyards over 100 years old still on their own roots - some of the most unique parcels of vineyard land in Australia. The Tyrrell family now owns seven of these eleven blocks. Founding father Edward Tyrrell's motto, "Nothing is great unless it's good", has been a beacon for the family. This commitment to quality has been, and will continue to be, the foundation of everything Tyrrell does. With the fifth generation involved in the business, Tyrrell continues to lead the family as the company's core ethos, with the simple philosophy of producing high-quality wine that people enjoy drinking.
