In a few words ...

Situated in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, this grand cru covers an area of 14.1 hectares on the long slope that sits on hard rock. The soil is brown with silt and gravelly scree on the upper slopes and limestone with clay content on the lower slopes. The parcel is situated at an altitude of 240 to 250 meters and faces east. Chambertin was the field of a certain Monsieur Bertin. "The story goes that Bertin planted the same vines in his field as those used by the monks of Bèze, and the resulting wine was perfect, so the winegrowers named the resulting vineyard after its owner: "Champ de Bertin", and hence "Chambertin".
