Appellation Chambertin

The Chambertin AOC, already renowned at the Court of Versailles

An appellation of the Côte-de-Nuits, Chambertin is located in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. This is a land of great wines, as all the neighbouring appellations too are classified Grand Cru.

The wines of the AOC Chambertin were already well known in the 13th century and at the Court of Versailles. Wines of kings, they are made solely from the pinot noir, which finds a terroir conducive to its development in the region.

Indeed, the vineyard benefits from a beautiful eastern exposure, and a continental climate that pinot noir enjoys. The soils are calcareous especially, the soil is brown and there are many fossils in the area.

Characteristics of AOC Chambertin wines

Chambertin wines have a ruby red coat, sometimes quite dark cherry. The nose is clear on red fruits such as raspberry, blackcurrant and redcurrant, and there are also parfumes of stone, liquorice, spice accompanied byfloral notes with rose and violet. Sometimes one can detect notes of sous bois, mousse. On the palate, these are powerful and opulent red wines, with great voluptuousness. They reach their peak after an average of 10 years of cellaring.

Grand Cru, Chambertin is a gourmet wine and requires an accompaniment to match. The red Chambertin will thus sublimate game, lamb, prime rib or other meats in wine sauce, coq au vin for example. To enjoy it with cheese, it is best to choose washed-rind cheeses such as Epoisses, Munster or Maroilles.
