Appellation Auxey-Duresses

The Auxey-Duresses AOC, a small appellation, great wines

The appellation dates from 1937, and is located in the commune of Auxey-Duresses. The vineyard extends around the hamlets of Petit-Auxey and Melin, close to the Montagne du Châtelet. It is located on fairly steep slopes to the west of Meursault.

The vineyard is an old dependency of the Abbey of Cluny, which had a grape press. Two centuries later, the vineyard has continued to develop and has 9 climats classified as Premier Cru, including Duresses, Grands Champs or even La Chapelle.

The 140 hectares of the appellation are divided between the production of red and white wines. The grape varieties of the appellation are therefore pinot noir and chardonnay, each finding a terroir conducive to its development.

Indeed, towards the Montagne de Bourdon, the soils are mostly marl and limestone with lots of pebbles. They are perfectly suited to pinot noir. Towards Mont Mélian, it is the chardonnay that does best. Moreover, the climate of the appellation is temperate oceanic.

The AOC Auxey-Duresses, red and white wines

AOC Auxey-Duresses Red

This red wine is a wine to be left to age for a few years. Its colour is ruby. On the nose, there are parfumes of black fruits such as blueberry, blackcurrant and blackberry, as well as floral notes of peony. The palate is soft and fine, fleshy, with softening tannins when the wine is a few years old.

In fact, with age, the palate will be more velvety, with notes of leather, spice, undergrowth with fern and mushrooms. The red Auxey Duresses sublimates white meats, barbecued brochettes, and charcuterie. It also forms a fine pairing with pasta or poultry risottos.

AOC Auxey Duresses White

The white wines of this appellation have a light straw-coloured coat. The nose diffuses parfumes of fresh almond, apple, lemon, but also biscuity and mineral notes with gunflint. On the palate, it is a vivid wine with pleasant aromatic persistence, which becomes fatter with age.

Auxey Duresses blanc is a wonderful accompaniment to fish, prawns in a spicy sauce, ratatouille, but also cheeses such as Bleu de Gex, or Gorgonzola.
