Appellation Chambolle-Musigny

The AOC Chambolle-Musigny, the delicate wines of the Côte-de-Nuits

The region has known vines for almost 1000 years. Indeed, the estates were once attached to abbeys. The planting of vines in the region thus began with the foundation of the Abbey of Cîteaux in 1098. The monks were responsible for the maintenance of the plants.

This small 200-hectare appellation in Burgundy is full of nuggets... The wines produced here are the lightest in the Côte-de-Nuits, due to the appellation's subsoil, which is quite poor in minerals.

Less than 20 kilometres south of Dijon, the appellation enjoys an oceanic climate, with cool summers and mild winters, and humidity throughout the year. As for the soils, they are mostly calcareous, and are perfectly suited to the only grape variety of the appellation: pinot noir.

How to taste Chambolle-Musigny

The red wines of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation have a very bright colour, ranging from brick red to ruby.

Their nose diffuses scents of red fruits, such as redcurrant, strawberry or raspberry, and violet, typical of pinot noir. With the years, the nose develops scents of black fruit and ripe fruit such as prune, then spicy and undergrowth notes. Some vintages will offer animal notes.

On the palate, this red wine has a remarkable fine finish, without losing structure. The acidity is quite low, but the wine is complex and subtle. The Chambolle-Musigny will sublimate lamb, capon, coq au vin, but also pasta with mushrooms, or cheeses such as reblochon, vacherin or brillat-savarin.
