Wine Fixin

The AOC Fixin is a small appellation of 100 hectares, often misunderstood because of its location, next to the very famous Gevrey-Chambertin. However, the appellation has 5 Premiers Crus and many more wines of very good quality. Read more on Fixin

Appellation Fixin

The Fixin AOC, north of the Côte-de-Nuits

The 100 hectares of the appellation are located in the two communes of Fixin and Brochon. Fixin offers the vines a view of the Church of Saint-Antoine de Fixey while the Château de Brochon overlooks the vineyards, good reasons to visit the appellation during a tour on the route des vins de Bourgogne.

The Fixin AOC produces red wines and white wines, although white wine production remains very anecdotal, as only 5 hectares are devoted to chardonnay, the main grape variety of Fixin's whites, compared to 95 hectares for pinot noir, the emblematic Burgundian grape.

The appellation, close to Dijon, is one of the most northerly of the Côte-de-Nuits vineyards, so it benefits from an oceanic climate with semi-continental influences. The soils of the AOC, meanwhile, are predominantly chalky and marly, which provides the vines with beneficial moisture as well as solar heat, retained by the soils.

Fixin AOC wine tasting

The Fixin reds have a very bright purple colour, sometimes quite dark red. The nose is floral with notes of peony and violet, fruity developing parfumes of blackcurrant, morello cherry, quince or sometimes cooked peach. Finally, one can find peppery and liquorice scents. The Fixin's palate is very tannic in the first months, it will gain in sweetness, fatness and roundness with a few years.

These red wines go very well with fine pieces of grilled or braised meat (entrecote, pork shank...), but also paella, or even comté.

The white wines of this appellation have a beautiful straw yellow coat. Their nose is very mineral, with some floral notes of eglantine, one can find childhood flavours of hazelnut and caramel depending on the cuvées. In the mouth, this wine is very fine and fresh. It is a very pleasant wine to drink.

The Fixin white forms a beautiful marriage with seafood, fish or shellfish, also with poultry in sauce or asparagus. Finally, it is very harmonious with goat cheese. With age, it will be very interesting to taste it with the traditional Burgundy snails.
