Appellation Bâtard-Montrachet

The Bâtard-Montrachet AOC, 11 hectares of Grand Cru

An appellation created in 1937, Bâtard-Montrachet is located in the southern part of the Côte-de-Beaune, and is divided between two communes in the Côte-d'Or department: Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne. The AOC produces white wines classified as Grand Cru, very suitable for ageing, only from the Chardonnay grape variety.

The Burgundian climate is characterised by favourable sunshine for the development of the vines, as well as some regular rainfall in May and June, necessary to maintain the humidity levels that the vines need. Chardonnay is planted in particular on relatively hard and thick limestone and clay soils.

Tasting Bâtard-Montrachet wines

These white wines offer a golden coat, quite clear, with green highlights. With age, the gold will be more intense. The nose diffuses aromas of white flowers, lemon zest, lemongrass, vanilla, bitter almond, but also spices and honey. On the Puligny side, the wines develop vegetal scents of fern.

You can detect the butter and croissant in the wines from the Chassagne side. On the palate, these are opulent, deep, very balanced wines with a very nice aromatic persistence.

These Grands Crus with remarkable ageing potential, sometimes more than 15 years, invite tasting with noble dishes. The Bâtard-Montrachet thus goes very well with foie gras, caviar, lobster, lobster or large prawns cooked to perfection. White fish with firm flesh such as monkfish will also be sublimated by these white wines.
