Appellation Mâcon-Villages

The AOC Mâcon-Villages, wines drunk at the court of Louis XIV

The appellationMâcon-Villages is located on very hilly territories, at altitudes of up to 400 metres. The wines of the appellation can be produced in several communes, but the most famous are those of Viré, Clessé, Lugny and Chardonnay.

The Mâconnais vineyards find the origins of their fame in the 17th century. Indeed, the winegrower Claude Brosse made the region's wines famous by having them tasted by Louis XIV, then becoming his private supplier.

The AOC produces exclusively white wines, from the chardonnay grape. Chardonnay is characterised by fairly small clusters and berries. It grows on clay, limestone and siliceous soils, and enjoys a continental climate.
