Appellation Chorey-lès-Beaune

The AOC Chorey-lès-Beaune, plain of the Côte de Beaune

Chorey-lès-Beaune is located in the vineyard of the Côte de Beaune, its particularity is that it is located on a plain, which is uncommon in the region. The appellation is close to the prestigious AOC Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The region has indeed been devoted to the vine for several centuries. It is estimated that viticulture has been practiced in the region since the 6th century. The vines were maintained by the monks, as the vineyard plots were attached to the abbeys.

Chorey-lès-Beaune covers about 130 hectares, of which more than 120 hectares are devoted to the production of red wine. The grape varieties planted in the AOC are the king grapes of Burgundy: pinot noir and chardonnay, planted on chalky and marly soils. There are also some plots with gravel on the surface.

The vineyard benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, the vines are not short of water, which allows the wines to retain their slightly fruity character.

Tasting the wines of Chorey-lès-Beaune

The red wines of the appellation have a purple coat, crossed by some purple reflections. The nose diffuses scents of red fruits such as Morello cherry and strawberry, and black fruits, especially with blackberry. There are also hints of liquorice. Over the years, the wine develops scents of spice, leather and strawberry jam.The palate is structured, tannic and round.

Chorey-lès-Beaune reds are quite easy to match, they can be enjoyed with charcuterie, grilled or sauced red meats, roast poultry or even pizza.

White Chorey-lès-Beaune wines have a golden coat, quite pale. One recognises aromas of white flower, honey, dried fruits such as hazelnut or almond, as well as hints of pear and lemongrass. The palate is vive, it will become softer after 2-3 years of cellaring, and will develop a very pleasant fatness.

These white wines go very well with white meats, especially veal, fish or even cheeses such as Comté.
