Appellation Charmes-Chambertin

AOC Charmes-Chambertin, Grand Cru de Bourgogne

Wines of the appellation Charmes-Chambertin can only be produced in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the vineyard of the Côte-de-Nuits, about 15 kilometres from Dijon.

A small appellation of 27 hectares, Charmes-Chambertin is classified as a Grand Cru, and is thus situated on the road to the Grands Crus of Burgundy. The production area of the appellation is located in a nature reserve. The vines are therefore in the heart of a rich and diverse ecosystem.

The pinot noir is the grape variety used in the production of Charmes-Chambertin red wines. The vineyard benefits from an oceanic climate, and soils composed of brown earth in the higher plots, clay and limestone in the lower plots.

Taste the wines of Charmes-Chambertin

These red wines reveal a beautiful dark colour, ruby or black cherry colour. The aromatic bouquet is complex and rich. Indeed, the nose diffuses aromas of red and black fruits, with raspberry, red currant and blackcurrant.

There are scents of core, spice and violet, and with the years, there will be undergrowth, moss, sometimes even vanilla and ground coffee. On the palate, Charmes-Chambertin is opulent, powerful, very elegant too, and will reach its apogee after 10 years of cellaring at least.

Charmes-Chambertin red wines are gastronomic wines, they can be enjoyed with game, lamb, prime rib or truffle dishes. With cheeses, one would rather choose Epoisses or Ami du Chambertin, two washed-rind cheeses produced in the Côte-d'Or region.
