Gevrey Chambertin is located in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. The village boasts 26 premiers crus and 8 grands crus. Half of the premiers crus surround the grands crus (towards morey), while the other half lies to the north towards the combe de lavaux, with limestone and clay soils. The vineyard is located in the southern part of the commune, towards morey saint denis, just below the chambertin grand cru, and against the mazoyères (which can also lay claim to charmes). The soils are chalky with a good distribution of clayey marl.
