Appellation Ladoix

The Ladoix AOC, a great diversity of soils

The AOC Ladoix, located north of Beaune, produces red and white wines, although 73 hectares are devoted to pinot noir, and thus to red wines as opposed to 34 hectares for chardonnay.

The vines are planted on relatively different soils. There are clay and marl soils in the higher parts of the hillsides, which mainly produce the white wines. The mid-slopes are characterised by chalky and more stony soils which result in the creation of powerful, full-bodied red wines. Finally, in the lower areas, the soils are clay-limestone, resulting in fruitier and lighter red wines.

All these vineyards are located on the western part of the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny, and enjoy an unobstructed view of the commune's church as well as the Chapelle Notre Dame du Chemin. Once a year, the commune organises "la balade gourmande", a tour to discover the village's winegrowers and their wines.

The climate of the appellation is temperate oceanic, the sunshine is average, the rainfall regular but the temperatures are mild.

The Ladoix AOC wine tasting

The red wines of the appellation offer a beautiful blackcurrant coloured, almost black with purple highlights. The nose is fruity with aromas of raspberry, cherries in brandy, sometimes ripe fruit. There are also vegetal scents of elderberry, and spicy, roasted notes of clove and coffee. On the palate, the red Ladoix is rounded, with a nice tannic structure.

AOC Ladoix rouge goes perfectly with raw ham, rabbit, beef bourguignon, curried poultry or cheeses like reblochon or vacherin.

Ladoix Blanc offers a golden or light straw colour. The nose diffuses slightly beery scents, notes of acacia and greedy fruits like plum, ripe apple, fig, pear or quince. The palate is vibrant, fresh and fat, becoming more mellow with age.

This white wine goes very well with shellfish au gratin, fish or prawns cooked in an Asian style, and also cheeses such as Bleu, goat or Gruyere.
