Wine Marsannay

Marsannay is the most northerly appellation in the Côte de Nuits vineyards and expresses itself through three colours of wine, even if the reds are in the majority. The parcels are exposed to the east or south, on a unique terroir which gives the wines their particularity. Read more on Marsannay

Appellation Marsannay

The Marsannay AOC, vineyard of the Côte-de-Nuits

The appellation covers about 240 hectares of the Côte-de-Nuits, in the communes of Marsannay-la-Côte, Couchey and Chenôve. There are many lieux dits within the appellation such as Au Champ Saint Etienne, Au Ravry, Aux Grands Bandeaux, En La Montagne, or Vignes Blanches.

The AOC has been recognised since 1987 but it is believed that the area was home to vines as early as the 7th century. It is devoted more to the production of red wines, from pinot noir, but there are also chardonnay and pinot blanc reserved for the production of the few white wines of the appellation.

Marsannay enjoys an oceanic climate, with some continental influences, where rainfall is moderate and temperatures are relatively cool. The soils are quite diverse: there are limestones, marls and sandstones.

Taste the 3 colours of Marsannay

The Red Marsannay has a fairly pale red colour. The nose is vegetal with notes of fern and violet. The intensity is beautiful, we detect red and black fruit flavours such as raspberry, blackberry or blueberry. On the palate, it is a powerful and generous wine, with a nice structure and a pleasant length. This red wine can be enjoyed with red meats, charcuterie, game birds, Asian-style sautéed vegetables or cow's milk cheeses.

In white, Marsannay has a golden coat with green highlights. The nose diffuses scents of citrus, lemongrass, and white flowers including acacia and hawthorn. The palate is mineral, ample and long, very delicate. White Marsannay goes wonderfully with white meats, risottos, fish, and sushi. As for the cheese, goat's milk cheeses should be chosen.

The rosés of the appellation have a colour of a sustained pink, lively. There are fruity scents of vine peach and redcurrant. On the palate, this is a fresh and greedy rosé, with a slightly floral finish. These rosés will be perfect with summer salads, grilled meats, red mullet or with oriental cuisine.
