Between Vougeot and Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the small commune of Chambolle-Musigny takes its name from an ancient Celtic village: Cambola. A small appellation planted exclusively with Pinot Noir, it is one of the jewels of the Côte and of Burgundy's heritage. The 1er Cru "Les Chabiots", adjoining Les Amoureuses, lies in the southern zone of the 1ers Crus; the shallowness of the soil and the proximity of limestone rock, develop above all silky characters and elegance. "Chabiots" can be traced back to the word "caboche", from the vulgar Latin CAPUM (head). Here, we're talking about rock heads and boulders weighing from 50 to 200kg, found when ploughing at a depth of 40/60 cm to plant the vines.
