In a few words ...

The production areas of the Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin appellations are the same, but it is the Charmes-Chambertin appellation that is usually claimed. Between Dijon and Nuits-St-Georges, the vines for this grand cru are planted in the commune of Gevrey. The soil is clay-limestone with limestone predominating. On the surface, a high proportion of scree gravel, brought in by the alluvial cone of the Combe de Lavaux, gives these soils a draining character and particularly favors grape ripening by reflecting heat and solar radiation.
