The winemaker

In 2000, it was in the Colchagua Valley that Francois bought 200 hectares of land. If there has never been a vineyard there, the choice of this region is no coincidence: the influence of the oceanic climate tempers the heat of the valley. The large thermal amplitude between day and night allows the berries to reach exceptional levels of maturity. The valley, finally, is divided into micro particularly varied climates that allow, thanks to a fine assembly work, produce amazingly complex wines. Today, François Lurton continues to explore various options, including by making plantations at altitude with varieties requiring more freshness, such as Cabernet or Pinot Black. The exceptional quality of the climate allowed to undertake the conversion of the area to biodynamics, which will end in 2013 with obtaining international label Demeter. Still in the same spirit, that to achieve the most natural wines possible, we made our first vintage in 2012 without sulfur, Humo Blanco Carmenère. Finally, to reduce energy consumption and secure the irrigation capacity of our vineyards, a 45.000m3 accumulator tank has just been completed. It can recover rainwater, abundant and concentrated in winter, and redistributing via a pump powered by solar panels to all of our 30 hectares of vineyards. This project is the Viña Hacienda Araucano the first vineyard of the American continent powered with solar energy 100%.
