The winemaker

History

Figure that its history is not so old. In fact, it began in 1904 when the Arthur Metz company was founded by... a man of the same name. Being a wine merchant in the city of Paris, he started his activity and bottled wines coming from Alsace. In 1969, he had to move to Epfig, south of Strasbourg, because new regulations required him to bottle in the region of production. This event did not hinder the company's rise, as it was bought out in 1997. After this takeover, it merged with another company and became the Arthur Metz group...

In 2006, the company becomes the first producer of cremant of Alsace as well as the first actor of the region. In order to maintain this level, the investments follow one another to finally lead in 2007 to an increase of the storage capacity. A whole building was erected to allow the company to produce and serve thousands of customers around the world.

Much more than storage, it is also new tools and spaces for the winemakers that are put in place. Today, the Arthur Metz company differentiates itself in the wine world on several aspects...

Knowledge that is passed on

One of the specificities of the house is that it has only 10 hectares of vineyards but produces 15 million bottles per year. Very productive vines you might say... not quite!

In reality, the company buys its grapes in all Alsace from about 500 wine growers for a surface of 1 000 hectares. Its activities are focused on the entire wine industry thanks to the establishment of its two wine-making sites. This is one of the secrets of the Arthur Metz group: an optimal realization and monitoring of the wine-making process coupled with quality grapes. Without great grapes, no great wines! The fruit is then selected from exceptional vineyards (various AOC, Grands Crus...).

But that's not all, the influence of Arthur Metz is not limited to the vineyard and the cellar, it is also in the knowledge. Indeed, the group offers, through a school located in Marlenheim, training courses in the wine industry. Tastings and technical knowledge are on the agenda for wine lovers who want to learn more. All the necessary equipment and new facilities welcome students to share with them the science of wine.

The investments and decisions made by the different leaders during its history have propelled the Arthur Metz winery to the top of the Alsace wine scene. As a symbol, the Arthur Metz sales cellar is located at the entrance of the Alsace wine route...
