The winemaker

The history of the estate

Domaine Barthel is a family-owned business that is more commonly referred to as Domaine Christian Barthel. The domain is a family estate that has been established for three generations on the town of Albé, in the center of the Alsatian vineyards, 60 km from Strasbourg and 15 km from Sélestat.

The terroir

Today, the estate extends over ten hectares of vines, balanced between young and old vines. Typical of the Alsatian region, the Christian Barthel estate benefits from an exceptional climate and is located in a mountainous area, being one of the highest vineyards in Alsace (up to 500 m altitude).

The soils of the vineyard are mainly composed of Grey Schist, which allows to produce typical, dry and sweet wines.

With the aim of producing authentic wines that breathe the terroir on which they have evolved, the Christian Barthel estate works its vines in integrated agriculture, and the grapes are harvested manually.

The wines

The Pinot Noir L'instinct vintage is deeply perfumed, offering notably intense notes of red fruits and nuances of wild aromas. On the palate, the wine is velvety, supple and edgy. Ideal with charcuterie or game, it could eventually be enjoyed on a platter of aged cheeses.

The Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes cuvée offers a pretty perfumed nose, very fruity, but also on woody touches and undergrowth. The palate is quite invigorating and shows notes of violets, before giving way to a licorice finish. As a good Alsace Pinot Noir, it will go very well with roasts, game, red meat and charcuterie.

The Pinot blanc cuvée is a fresh and discreet dry wine. With a golden yellow color, its nose and fruity and its mouth is simple and lively. A dry white straight and all pleasure. Ideal with a salad or fine charcuterie, it can also be paired with white meat or a platter of Alsatian cheeses.
