The love of wine has run in their veins for generations. Jean-Christophe Bott makes wines that bring a singular vision to the genius of terroirs and the notion of "Grands Vins d'Alsace". The history of the estate
The BOTT GEYL estate is a family-run business whose history dates back to 1775, when the GOTT family's forebears began cultivating the estate established in Ribeauvillé. For their part, the GEYL family are also part of a winegrowing and winemaking tradition.
The union of the two families was celebrated in 1926, with the marriage of Frédéric Paul BOTT and Andrée GEYL. Settling in Ribeauvillé, they gave birth to two sons, including Edouard, who founded the BOTT GEYL estate in 1953 after studying viticulture. After many years of hard work, the estate finally produced its first vintage in 1961. The grapes were vinified in the Beblenheim winery.
Using avant-garde methods for the time, he extended his vineyard from 4 to 14 hectares in 40 years. Bottling on the estate was established in 1961. In 1993, his son Jean-Christophe took over the reins of the estate.
Terroir
The estate converted to organic farming in 2000, and was certified Biodynamic in 2002.
Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, to select grapes at their perfect ripeness. They are transported from the vineyard to the estate in small crates to minimize damage to the grapes.
The wines
Each wine produced by the BOTT GEYL estate benefits from the originality of the terroir on which it grew. Because the terroirs are so different, the wines are extremely varied, offering a wide range of flavors and characters.
Each cuvée possesses both power and length on the palate, ensuring delicious fullness on fairly young vintages.
