Domaine Trapet Alsace

4.3
(2 customer reviews)
Domaine Trapet is the story of the family of the same name, originally established in Burgundy. Jean-Louis Trapet, the fifth generation of the family's winemakers, has made Domaine Trapet a benchmark among Burgundy wines. His union with Alsatian winemaker Andrée Trapet, née Grayer, enabled the estate to grow, adding several hectares of vines in Riquewihr, Alsace. Today, the two don't hesitate to cross France to cherish their two vineyards. Find out more

The winemaker

Between sweetness and terroir in Burgundy

On his native land, Jean-Louis Trapet's domaine covers 15 hectares with a large majority of Pinot Noir. His only watchword in vineyard management is gentleness. This is how the winemaker achieves the highest degree of terroir expression in his wines, marked by purity and aromatic richness. This gentleness is often synonymous with tradition.

By bringing ancestral and natural practices up to date, the result is elegant, harmonious wines that combine finesse and delicacy with character and fullness. These choices, following the guidelines of organic and biodynamic agriculture, have created exceptional wines with an ageing potential of over 20 years. They are well known in the region for the prestige associated with crus such as Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Clos Prieur.

A visceral attachment to Alsace

For Andrée Trapet, deeply in love with her Alsatian vines, it was impossible to abandon the family vineyard. So, in 2002, she decided to accompany her vines and transform them into treasures that today belong to four of Alsace's most prestigious grands crus. For her, biodynamic viticulture is an obvious choice, as is her husband who has been cultivating his vines according to these principles since 1995.

The various practices implemented, from biodynamic vineyard management to manual harvesting and limited oenological inputs, create wines that magnificently express the typicity of Alsace grape varieties and the region's particular terroir.

They are thus marked by minerality and testify to an astonishing power and intensity while maintaining a freshness reminiscent of the Alsatian climate. All in all, Andrée Trapet's cuvées are of the highest quality, with considerable ageing potential.

A genuine welcome

At the Trapet family, beyond the quest for excellence, what's most important is conviviality. It's in this spirit that the family welcomes you to their guest house in Gevrey-Chambertin, where you'll be offered room and board, accompanied by a tasting of the estate's wines. The choice is all yours: you can choose to eat cold "like in the vineyards", as this institution so aptly puts it, or hot "like on a Sunday".

As for the wines tasted, once again, you're free to choose your formula: "Promenade dans nos vignes" with four wines from the family's two estates, "Nos finages de Bourgogne" with a purely Burgundian selection, or finally "Le Paradis", a range of eight wines that will take you on a journey between the winemakers' regions.
