The winemaker

The story of an authentic estate
The history of Chateau Thivin dates back to 1743, and since then the passion for the winegrowing profession has been passed down from generation to generation, along with the love of the land and nature, as well as the quest for ever more advanced and precious know-how.

The Geoffray family became owners of the estate and its two hectares of vines in 1877. Today, it is the 5th and 6th generations that manage an estate that has grown over nearly 150 years of viticulture.

Château Thivin is the oldest wine estate on Mont Brouilly, but it remains a human-sized château, a family affair where a special atmosphere reigns, far from the large companies seeking profit and economies of scale.

This castle is above all a place of life, work and beautiful meetings. The fireplace is always lit and ready to welcome something to accompany the tasting of one of the vintages of the domain.

The cycle of the vine
With the goal of harvesting the grapes at the best time and obtaining perfect ripeness, the estate's winemakers pay special attention and care to the vines. They have indeed the intimate conviction that a wine will be able to express all its aromatic potential only if it is vinified with grapes coming from a healthy and living vine and soil.

Thus, according to each plot and the weather of each year, the viticultural methods are adapted so that the grape and the vine are accompanied at best. The goal is not to cultivate a plot, but rather to accompany and care for it.

Also, practices such as natural grassing, the establishment of flower strips, the use of green manure, grazing by sheep and light ploughing... are all viticultural techniques that aim to maintain and promote the biological activity of the soil, while promoting the life cycle of the vine.

The wines
Château Thivin's vintages focus primarily on the Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly crus, but the vineyard also makes white, rosé and sparkling Beaujolais.

The "Les Sept Vignes" vintage offers a garnet red color, with bluish highlights. Its nose of hawthorns, peonies and cherries announces a round and mineral mouth and on black fruits, a spicy finish.

The "Clos Bertrand" vintage, very similar to the "Les Sept Vignes" vintage, stands out from it with its longer, silkier finish. The wine is rounder and fuller.

The "Clos de Rochebonne" offers a bouquet of white flowers, citrus and stone fruits such as apricot or mirabelle. In the mouth, the attack is mineral and elegant, the finish is supple and long.
