The winemaker

The Producer

Coming from a family of winegrowers, Gérard Delin bought the wine estate, then named Clos des Nugues, in 1976. Over the years, he will acquire new parcels, building little by little the current vineyard, a mosaic of terroirs with a beautiful diversity of appellations.

His son Gilles came to work with him in 2000. Since his father's retirement in 2008, he is the one who runs the estate, with his wife and in the continuity of the work started by his parents.

The estate

Located in the commune of Lancié, the estate is conducted in integrated agriculture and has received the HVE certification. The work in the vineyards and in the cellar is carried out with respect for the terroirs and the people with manual harvesting and low temperature vinification.

The multiplicity of terroirs offers varied conditions for the vines, with sandy-clay, granitic and sandy-granitic soils.

The grape varieties are made up of the classic red and white grape varieties allowed in Beaujolais. Of the 34 hectares of vines that the property has, 30 hectares are reds with essentially Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc and a little less than four hectares of white grapes, only Chardonnay. The singularity of the Domaine des Nugues lies in the presence of 6700 m2 of Syrah among the red grape varieties, i.e., 2% of the red grape varieties, and since 2019, a 3500 m2 parcel of Vidocq, a mildew- and powdery mildew-resistant red grape variety resulting from the crossing of two grape varieties: the Regent and the Bouquet.

Some of the vines are over a century old, with an average age of the vines in the vineyard of 45 years.

The wines

The Domaine des Nugues, 2018 vintage is a rich yet fine Beaujolais Village, with black fruit aromas and well-balanced spicy notes. The palate offers a beautifully long finish and the cuvée has good cellaring potential.

The Libertine cuvée was first made in 2006. This 100% Gamay press rosé offers an original expression of this grape variety with a gourmet mouthfeel combining acidic aromas and a beautiful sweetness.

The En Bel Air vintage is a floral and fruity red Fleurie with a deep ruby color. The nose is in the fruit with aromas of black and red fruits and spicy notes. This elegant wine offers a nice length on the palate with lingering tannins.
