The winemaker

The Marcel Lapierre Story

In 1909, Michel Lapierre, a farmer from the Beaujolais region, settled in Villié-Morgon with his wife Annette. He became cellar master at Domaine Les Chênes, which has since become the estate's winery.

Their son, Camille, began his winemaking career at only 14 years old, working in the vineyards as a sharecropper, alongside his parents. In 1941, Camille married Lucienne Mathieu. They have three children, including a son, Marcel Lapierre, born in 1950. At that time, the wine produced was sold by the Fleurie cooperative, but Camille wanted to develop his own marketing. He began by bottling the wine himself, in order to label it with his name. In 1960, he began to acquire vineyards, to hold a 7 hectare exploitation.

Marcel Lapierre took over the exploitation in 1973. He continues the work of his father with his wife, Marie, whom he met in 1980. From 1981 and his meeting with Jules Chauvet, a recognized researcher, he begins a vinification without SO2, nor yeast, and undertakes to cultivate his vines in biodynamy, without chemical fertilizers, nor weedkillers. Marcel Lapierre died in 2010 and left the estate to his children Mathieu and Camille.

Marcel Lapierre's vineyard

Marcel Lapierre's vineyard belongs to the Beaujolais, with an acidic and draining nature. This results in a poor soil that Gamay is particularly fond of. The vines of the domain belong to the Morgon appellation. They grow on a soil considered as "rotten rock". This means that it is the fruit of the decomposition of eruptive rocks.

Five lieux-dits make up the Morgon appellation: Les Micouds, Corcellette, Grand Cras, Les Charmes and Côte du Py. The latter is the only hill of the appellation. Gamay is the only grape variety in Beaujolais. The climate that reigns on the Marcel Lapierre estate mixes the meteorological characteristics of the oceanic temperate, with the northern influence due to the proximity of the Alps. The seasons are very marked.

The wines of the Marcel Lapierre estate

The wines of Domaine Marcel Lapierre reflect the typical aromas of Gamay, infused with raspberry, cherry, violet and licorice.

Domaine Marcel Lapierre - AOC Morgon - Red

The red wine of the AOC Morgon is a wine all in roundness. We find its aromas of ripe fruits in its nose, as well as in its frank and warm mouth. It is a greedy wine which accompanies with delight your grills and your summer salads.

Marcel Lapierre Estate Gaulish Grape

The Grape Gaulois comes from a vineyard of young vines averaging 15 years old. It is particularly lively, very fruity and always very fresh. It is recommended to drink it young, to accompany your barbecues and planchas.
