The winemaker
The vineyards of Chateau Belair is arranged on a diverse land, mainly composed of clay and limestone ribs and a limestone plateau asteriated located in old quarries. The vineyard has increased from 11 to 12.5 hectares in the different rankings and 24 hectares from the 2012 vintage (contribution of Château La Magdalena). The vines are 85% made of merlot and 15% cabernet franc vines with 40 years of average age planted at a density of 6500 plants / ha. The grapes are harvested by hand and in crates, then sorted on optical table. Back when Guyenne was English (XIV century), the owner of the castle was the Great Seneschal and Governor of Guyenne, Sir Robert Knowles. A century later, when Charles VII reconquered Guyenne, Robert's descendants Knowles remained in the country and gallicized name, which then became Canolle. The estate, called "Canolle Cru" and Belair, they belonged to the family Dubois-Française.La Challon Revolution buyer in 1916, confirmed the name of Château Bélair. Madame Dubois-Challon died in 2003 giving all his property to Mr. Delbeck. In 2008, Jean-Pierre Moueix Etablissements were purchasers of this historic site. In Memory of Anne-Adele Monange, wife of Jean Moueix, and the first woman of the family established in Saint-Emilion in 1931, the thought was renamed from the vintage 2008 Chateau Belair-Monange.
