The winemaker

An emblem of the Bordeaux vineyards

Born in the 18th century, Domaine Bellefont-Belcier was owned by a wealthy Bordeaux family. It was Count Louis-François de Belcier who first established a vineyard, before building a château in the Bellefont name in the early 19th century. This estate stands alongside Château Larcis-Ducasse and Château Pavie. The many springs near the château inspired the name Bellefont, which is short for "beautiful fountains".

At the end of the 19th century, the estate passed to the Faure family. Gradually, the estate became an emblematic vineyard of the Bordeaux region. It received numerous awards, including the gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris in 1892. In 1994, the estate passed into the hands of three partners: Alain Laguillaumie, Dominique Hébrard and Jacques Berrebi. Together, they undertook a thorough modernization of the estate. In 2006, the estate acquired the highly prestigious Grand Cru Classé classification. Since 2017, the estate has been owned by Peter Kwok. A Chinese investor who has loved France since childhood, he chose to invest in one of the finest estates in the Bordeaux wine region.

A vineyard in the heart of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation

Located in the heart of the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, the Château Bellefont-Belcier estate is situated in the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes. The vineyard is divided into three zones: the sandy-clay foot of the slope, the limestone-clay southern slope and the limestone plateau. This geological diversity, combined with a microclimate favorable to viticulture, is one of the secrets behind the excellence of Saint-Émilion appellation wines. The total surface area of the vineyard is 13.5 hectares.

As far as grape varieties are concerned, the vineyard is essentially made up of Merlot. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are also grown in smaller proportions. On average, the vines are 35 years old. Thanks to viticulture raisonnée, phytosanitary treatment of the vines is reduced to a minimum.

Wines as close as possible to the Saint-Émilion appellation

Château Bellefont-Belcier vintage 2015 sports an elegant ruby-red color. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry. The palate is powerful, fleshy and well-balanced, with a long finish. This wine for laying down will be much appreciated by lovers of Bordeaux reds. Les Tours de Belcier has a crimson color with ruby-red highlights. The nose is fresh, revealing subtle notes of red fruit. Well-balanced, the palate is silky, developing aromas of redcurrant, blueberry, plum and ripe blackcurrant. This wine can be enjoyed in its early years.
