The winemaker

Château Berliquet designated Grand Cru for almost two centuries

In the Saint-Émilion region, vines have been cultivated since late antiquity. As early as 1768, Château Berliquet appeared on maps. In 1829, it was designated one of the appellation's five grands crus. In the 20th century, Patrick de Lesquen made every effort to establish Château Berliquet's reputation. Nevertheless, he remained discreet, and only insiders passed on the name of this exceptional estate. In 1997, Patrick Valette was put in charge of the château, which was eventually bought by Chanel in 2017. Since then, Nicolas Audebert has been at the helm, determined to modernize the estate's facilities and philosophy.

Chateau Berliquet terroir characteristics

Its terroir is composed of clay and limestone, which makes it possible to obtain quality Merlot and Cabernet red grape varieties. These give the final cuvées a fruity, floral mouthfeel. The taste is rather complex and the red color is very attractive. Château Berliquet's land covers 10 hectares on the Magdelaine plateau. The soil is essentially composed of limestone and clay, providing natural drainage. The climate is ideal, with good exposure and little rain. These perfect conditions earned the vines UNESCO World Heritage status in 1997. Vinification is at the cutting edge of technology, but cultivation is sustainable and harvesting is done by hand.

Chateau Berliquet cuvées

Among the wines on offer, the cuvée 2021 is not to be missed. Its bottles have been classified as "Grand cru Primeur". The estate has a St Emilion grand cru with its 2017 cuvée, whose bottles come with a high price tag. More accessible for the budget, you'll find all the character of Château Berliquet wine with a bottle of the 2016 cuvée. The reputation of Château Berliquet's grands crus speaks for itself. The wines are made predominantly from Merlot (75%), complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. They are aged in French oak barrels. Precise winemaking methods and the unique character of the terroir produce refined, aromatic wines with an earthy character. The characteristic roundness of Saint-Émilion is evident on the palate.
