The winemaker

Vines have been grown on the estate since the 1870s. By 1876, the estate was already producing 50 barrels of wine, a fine start. On October 30, 1915, the owners' son was declared killed in action and the estate was gradually abandoned.

The SECRET family took over the estate in 1970. After growing cereals in Picardy, Pierre SECRET moved to Civrac en Médoc, where he bought the property. The vineyard, with plots of red and white grapes, was under brambles, and the buildings partly in ruins. As for the Château, it had been bought a few years earlier by an architect who rebuilt it entirely.

Pierre SECRET and his sons, while restoring the buildings, planted the first plots of vines in 1975, reaching 14 hectares in 1980. The property was classified "Cru Bourgeois" in 1979.

In 1980, the two eldest sons, "Hubert and Didier SECRET" created their own estate, "Château La Chandellière", classified Cru Bourgeois in 1989, and reached 31 Ha in the 2000s.

In 1990, Bruno Secret took over from his father and remained at the family estate until 2008, when it was classified "Cru Bourgeois Supérieur" in 2003. Bruno's departure gave way to a new generation, Guillaume and Thibaud SECRET, Didier's two eldest sons, who set up with their father Didier and their uncle Hubert, bringing the two operations together under the same company, GAEC DE CAZAILLAN, while keeping their two vinification and ageing sites quite separate, with only the storage of bottled wine and packaging being shared.

In 2017, the Château Bournac property was put up for sale, at which point Guillaume and Thibaud acquired it and turned it into a gîte, thus enabling them to offer a wine tourism activity to their customers and tourists visiting the Médoc vineyards and hillsides.
