Château Cazebonne
(5 customer reviews)
Located in the Graves region, in the commune of Saint-Pierre de Mons, Château Cazebonne is an estate whose viticultural origins date back to the 18th century. It has been owned by Jean-Baptiste Duquesne since 2016. This entrepreneur with a passion for viticulture entrusted the management of his estate to a great winemaker: David Poutays. The winemaker
The winery
The Château Cazebonne vineyard extends over several communes and benefits from a variety of terroirs, offering wines with marked aromatic profiles, each with its own character. It comprises six distinct blocks, with soils composed of sands and silts, deep gravels, clay-limestone subsoils and pebbles.
A committed viticulture
The 40 hectares of Château Cazebonne are cultivated biodynamically, in a global approach that respects terroir, biodiversity and the environment. The estate has been run according to organic farming principles since its conversion. The choice of biodynamic viticulture aims to preserve living organisms, i.e. the flora and fauna of the estate and the region. Since 2020, all vintages have been certified organic under the Demeter label.
The forgotten grape varieties of Bordeaux
The Château Cazebonne team has embarked on an ambitious and unique project: to revive Bordeaux's forgotten grape varieties. In the 19th century, nearly 50 grape varieties were grown in the region, most of which have now disappeared. Some estates have replanted them, but none has taken on the challenge of cultivating and reviving them all. Cazebonne has taken up this challenge, and today boasts old varieties such as Saintè-Macaire, Mancin, Castets, Sauvignonasse (known as Friulano in Italy), Béquignol, Bouchalès, Blanc Auba, Fer Servadou, Petit Pejac, Blanc Vert, Gros Verdot and Pruveras, to name but a few.
