The winemaker

The history of Chateau Croizet Bages

Château Croizet Bages was founded by the Croizet brothers, during the first half of the 18th century. These parliamentarians from Bordeaux had the idea of creating a wine estate in the commune of Pauillac, by combining different plots of land bought from as many farmers as it took to make the cultivation area coherent. They placed the center in the hamlet of Bages.

The vineyard of Château Croizet Bages continued to be worked with the aim of excellence. The labor paid off when it was classified in 1855 as a Fifth Grand Cru.

In 1942, Chateau Croizet Bages was purchased by Paul Quié. At the time, he already owned the Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande and Château Rauzan Gassies estates, a Grand Cru Classé producer in Margaux.

After the Second World War, Paul Quié undertook extensive work to modernize the estate. In 1968, he handed over the management of the estate to his son, Jean-Michel. Today, Château Croizet Bages is managed by Jean-Michel Quié, now associated with his children, Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe. The family still owns the other two châteaux inherited from their ancestor Paul.

The wines of Château Croizet Bages

The estate produces two wines: Château Croizet Bages and Alias Croizet Bages.

Chateau Croizet Bages

Château Croizet Bages is mostly composed of Merlot, harvested early enough to bring roundness to the vintage. Its color is an intense red. Its nose is fiery, imbued with notes of candied cherry.

The touch of Petit Verdot adds vivacity, while the Cabernet Sauvignon enriches the wine with its powerful aromatic palette, all in length, and which grows with the years of ageing.

The palate is rich with black fruits and cedar flavors. The structure of Chateau Croizet Bages is tannic, with just the right amount of fat, so that it takes on breadth.
