The winemaker

The history of Château du Taillan

Château du Taillan, also known as Château de la Dame Blanche, has been a family-run wine estate since 1896. Located at the gateway to Bordeaux and the Médoc, it is now run by five sisters who are committed to preserving the know-how of their winegrowing ancestors, while opening up to wine tourism to share their passion.

Château du Taillan was founded by the great-grandfather of the five current owners, Henri Cruse. The grandfather, Jean Cruse, obtained the first Cru Bourgeois distinction.

The estate extends around this 18th-century château, with its classical architecture and bucolic setting of century-old trees. The park covers some 100 hectares, where the vines occupy a privileged place, on a clay-limestone soil partly made up of small gravels.

The estate's wines benefit from the original underground cellars, whose vaults house the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel du Château du Taillan.

Today, the estate is a building classified as a French historic monument.

The Château du Taillan vineyard

The Château du Taillan vineyard occupies 31.5 hectares of the 100-hectare estate. 28 hectares are dedicated to red wine. The grape varieties are 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The 3.5 hectares reserved for white wines are planted exclusively with Sauvignon.

The soil alternates between limestone and clay. Average production at Château du Taillan is 180,000 bottles of Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, in red and rosé, as well as a white Médoc called La Dame Blanche.

The estate is run as naturally as possible, to preserve biodiversity and avoid treating the vines. Château du Taillan's production is certified HVE (High Environmental Value).

The wines of Château du Taillan

The Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel rouge

Exemplary work in the vineyards has led to the highest recognition, with the classification of Château du Taillan's first wine as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.

This nectar is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Its nose appears chalky at first, before diffusing a great freshness that reveals the purity of blackcurrant aromas.

The attack on the palate is explosive. It bears witness to the wine's maturity, as well as its fine tannic structure. The finish is long and delicious, right down to the last note.

Château La Dame Blanche - Médoc blanc

Château La Dame Blanche is a Haut Médoc wine that regales you with its fruitiness, freshness, roundness and crispness.

The wine is made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc. Its structure is balanced, backed by young, vigorous tannins that give it delicious freshness. Fruity on the palate, it improves with two years of cellaring.
