The winemaker
Legend attribute this former hunting lodge to Armand du Plessis, nephew of Cardinal Richelieu. In 1830, Mr Fabre bequeathed the estate to his son Pierre. In 1861, it shares the vineyards between his son Pierre Leon (who becomes the owner of Duplessis Fabre) and her daughter, Ms. Hauchecome (heiress of Upper Vineyard will become Duplessis-Hauchecome). The property remains in the Hauchecome family until 1924, when it was sold to Mr. Delors, wine broker. The area is classified Cru Bourgeois in 1932. Located on Moulis, one of six titles village of Haut-Médoc (with Pauillac, Margaux, St. Estephe, St. Julien and Listrac), the field extends 18 hectares, planted with vines twenty-five years on average. The sandy clay soil and clay marl based on a cracked limestone base ensuring a good natural drainage. The planting favors Merlot (62%), which is expressed especially well on these soils. Cabernet Sauvignon is also found there (22%), Cabernet Franc (14%) and Petit Verdot (2%).
