The Domain

Located right in the Bordeaux-Libourne-Saint-Emilion axis, the estate of Château La Rose Pourret extends over 9 hectares of vineyards, a few hundred meters from the bell tower of the medieval city of Saint-Emilion, perched atop a sumptuous amphitheater of vines and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The vineyard

In the heart of Saint-Emilion, the vineyards of Château La Rose Pourret are established on more than 9 hectares of vines, more than half of which are now over 50 years old. The rest of the vines have been replanted over the years in order to introduce great diversity into the grapes produced, resulting in more complex wines with a fuller and more flavorful palette.

The vineyard rests on a rather homogeneous terroir, characterized by a rich soil consisting of superficial silts and deep clays. In addition, the property has decided to expand on the northern slope of the limestone plateau, which will allow the cultivation of vines yielding grapes that will introduce complexity into future wines. Located between 3 and 107m above sea level, the vines of Château La Rose Pourret benefit from a warm temperate climate, typical of the Saint-Emilion appellation area.

On the estate, we find 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Typically local, this grape variety allows us to obtain complex and balanced wines, between the roundness as well as the supple tannins provided by the Merlot, and the vegetality brought by the Cabernet Franc.

Since its acquisition by the new owner, the estate has taken a more committed turn in the respect of nature, joining an important environmental approach via the complete conversion of the vineyard to Organic Agriculture.

The wines

The 2019 vintage Saint-Emilion Grand Cru cuvée from Château La Rose Pourret displays a deep, savory ruby red color. On the nose, there is a complex aromatic palette, mixing notes of red fruits, ripe black fruits, and an energizing herbaceous note. On the palate, the wine reveals supple tannins and a freshness balanced by a vegetal and herbaceous note.
