The winemaker
This second Classified Growth in 1855, is located on one of the highest points of the town of Sauternes, it overlooks the Ciron Valley. The vineyard of Château Lamothe-Guignard has two different terroirs of which the most important, is located on several plateaus with gravelly soil, while the other gently down the gravelly clay-facing slopes north and northwest. The vines are 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon and Muscadelle. The originality of Sauternes lies in alternating fog sun. This alternation promotes the proliferation of the fungus Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot. The thus crystallized grapes are harvested grain to grain with at least five passages in the vine rows during harvesting.
