The winemaker

The History of Chateau Larmande

Château Larmande is one of the oldest properties in Saint Émilion. It appears for the first time in the city's archives in 1585. It knew various owners, before being offered as a wedding gift to Alice Capdemourlin and Ferdinand Meneret. The three generations that descend from the couple live at Château Larmande and exploit its vineyard.
At the end of 1990, Jean Meneret sold Château Larmande to the insurance group La Mondiale, which became AG2R La Mondiale. The company is specialized in wine exploitation. It also owns Châteaux Soutard and Petit Faurie de Soutard, Grands Crus Classés de Saint Émilion, as well as Château Grand Faurie La Rose, Saint Émilion Grand Cru.
Since 2018, Château Larmande has the HVE level 3 label (High Environmental Value).
Since 2019, Château Larmande offers wine tourism activities, as well as the organization of receptions.

The Château Larmande vineyard

The vineyard of Chateau Larmande covers 20 hectares in a single block. Its parcels belong to the northern coast of the Saint Emilion appellation and are located 1 kilometer from the medieval village. The vineyards of Château Larmande are planted with 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, which grow on sandy, siliceous clay and clay-limestone soils.
The estate is run under integrated viticulture, with a very strict use of inputs. The products applied for the care of the vine are natural, in order to preserve biodiversity and protect the vines as naturally as possible.
The vines are worked with animal traction, using Percheron draught horses.
The wines are elaborated with a traditional vinification in stainless steel tanks. They are then aged for 14 to 18 months in terracotta amphorae, as well as in French oak barrels.
The porous composition of the terracotta produces micro-oxygenation that softens the wine, as well as optimally preserves its fruity flavors. As of the 2018 vintage, 10% of the Château Larmande estate is aged in amphora.

The Château Larmande wine - Grand Cru Classé Saint Émilion - 2018 vintage

The 2018 vintage of Chateau Larmande is the first to benefit from terracotta amphorae. It is aged for 60% in new barrels, 30% in second use barrels and 10% in terracotta amphorae.
It is a blend of 81% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2018 Chateau Larmande is bursting with dark fruit flavors, enhanced by spicy notes. The palate is delicate, with a deliciously silky texture. The tannins are harmonious. The palate is long and lively, always remaining very fresh.
The Chateau Larmande 2018 vintage can be drunk young, but it also has excellent aging potential.
