Château Laroque's longevity makes it an integral part of Saint Emilion's heritage. Its emblematic tower encapsulates a rich and tumultuous past stretching back nearly ten centuries, during which the vineyard suffered various setbacks. The winemaker

A remarkable geology

Château Laroque's 61 hectares stretch over a soil whose uniqueness has made its reputation. It was the pedological study initiated by David Suire, the company's oenologist, that confirmed the specificity of the terrain enjoyed by the estate's vines.

Its exceptionally chalky character, thanks in particular to the diversity of its clay cover, has enabled the production of exceptional wines of remarkable quality. This clay-limestone soil enables the grapes to reach optimum ripeness, guaranteeing the creation of wines of character.

Indeed, the 30 hectares dedicated to the Grand Cru Classé are specially situated on limestone plateaus where red and chestnut clays, as well as molasses, are born, encoding for colorful wines with powerful body, while remaining both round and supple.

Traditional grape varieties

Château Laroque perfectly embodies the typicity of Saint-Émilion terroirs. Respect for nature in its entirety permeates the wines and marks their identity. The single vineyard undulates between the various characteristic elements of the landscape, from the irregularity of the plateau to the slope of the hillsides plunging towards the Dordogne valley, via the woods that adorn the vineyard.

The grape varieties planted on the estate reflect the traditional codes of Saint-Émilion viticulture, with Merlot predominating, complemented by smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are worked meticulously, vine by vine, under the watchful eye of the winemaker throughout the growing season. Finally, the vineyard is enhanced by natural grassing or sowing with cereals, with the aim of obtaining the best grapes possible.

Thus, forming a whole with the surrounding nature, the cultivation of Château Laroque's vines ensures fruitful harvests leading to a first wine enjoying the title of Grand Cru Classé since the 1996 classification.

Passionate men

Finally, the history of Château Laroque and the quality of its wines is marked by the greatness of the men who have succeeded each other at the head of the estate and by the soul they have breathed into it. The château's history is marked by Paul Boisard, who played a major role in the château's growth and recognition in Bordeaux.

In more contemporary times, it was Bruno Sainson, following the purchase of the château by the Beaumartin family, who restored the estate to its rightful place among the Grands Crus Classés de Bordeaux.

Today, for over fifteen years, David Suire has been leading the estate with a masterful hand, surrounded by his team of experienced and passionate men and women, in the pursuit of excellence.
