The winemaker

The name Château Malescot St-Exupéry comes from the surname of two of its former owners: Maitre Simon Malescot, King's Councillor to the Bordeaux Parliament, who bought the property in 1697, and Comte Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry, who owned the estate between 1827 and 1853. Paul Zuger and his son Roger bought the estate in June 1955. After more than thirty years of sustained effort and care, the Malescot St-Exupéry coat of arms has regained all its Semper ad Altum panache. The soils of the Margaux commune are ideal for growing vines and bringing them to fruition. A two- to ten-meter-thick layer of gravel, slightly sloping towards the Gironde, rests on a limestone or arilomarl bedrock formed in the Tertaire era. Fragments of ferruginous alios are sometimes mixed in. Based on historical and geological studies, the Malescot St-Exupéry plots have been identified as essential nuclei for vine-growing for over three centuries, as they meet the criteria for high-quality natural drainage.
