The winemaker
The creation of the vineyard dates back to 1585. It bears the name of an ancient family of the region. The first record of the date of ownership 1616. Under the first Empire, the estate was sold to a Dutch merchant, Jean Bekker Terrlink. The name of the latter, Germanized, came in addition to that of the founder at the Medoc wine classification in 1855: this is how Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker there was listed as the third grand cru. The property, a 15-hectare area is organized into three distinct blocks: the first, adjacent to the house and the vineyard of Château Margaux, is a sand-gravelly land, part of which is clay. The second block, also sand and gravel, is located along the famous D2, Route des Châteaux. The third block, finally, in the commune of Soussans, north of Margaux, is half sand-marl and half sand and gravel. These lands, gently shelving, offer excellent sun and good drainage.
