The winemaker

The Producer

The estate has carried the name of the Marquis de Terme since 1762. Managed by several families during its history, one of them will leave a lasting mark on the production of the château, the Feuillerat family. Three generations succeeded one another in managing the Château du Marquis de Terme, constantly improving its wines to the point of excellence. Their work was rewarded at the Universal Exhibition organized by Napoleon III in 1855 and the wines of the château obtained the appellation Grand Cru Classé.

The current owners inherited the estate, acquired by their father in 1935. Since 2009, the management of Château Marquis de Terme is ensured by Ludovic David. An oenologist with a passion for his profession, he implements innovative practices while enhancing the rich terroir of the estate.

The commitments

The exceptional wines produced at Château Marquis de Terme for nearly 250 years are the result of practices inscribed in ancestral know-how, of rigorous work, but also of creativity, open-mindedness and the ability to make practices evolve. The constant questioning of methods has thus allowed the estate to modernize while preserving the ancient know-how and preserving the quality of the soil and biodiversity.

Ludovic David has initiated strong evolutions since his arrival by opening the Château to wine tourism, but also to the international market. He has also undertaken numerous redevelopments, including the uprooting and replanting of grape varieties.

The terroir

The soils of Château Marquis de Terme are typical Margaux gravel. They host noble grape varieties: Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The latter is the majority grape variety of the estate.

The terroir of Margaux is exceptional, it gathers moreover the greatest number of Grands Crus Classés, including those of the Marquis de Terme. It offers an exceptional location and well-drained soils, allowing the vines to root very deeply up to 5 m.

The wines

The wines produced on the estate are balanced, modern, yet elegant and fine.

The Château Marquis de Terme is the first wine produced at the château. Most of the estate's land is devoted to the production of this red wine of exceptional quality. The majority grape variety of the cuvée is Cabernet Sauvignon and to a lesser extent Merlot.

The 9 of Marquis de Terme. This red wine cuvée has been made since 2012 from a selection of the best grapes. It has 999 bottles each year and its fermentation is done in oak barrels. The vinification is done only under wood and it gives the 9 of Marquis de Terme its very subtle woody side, while keeping its fruity and round side.

The Crown of Marquis de Terme is a balanced red wine, both fresh and elegant, ideal for an evening with friends. The cuvée is vinified in temperature-controlled concrete tanks, then aged in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months.

The Marquis de Terme rosé. All the know-how and excellence of the Marquis de Terme teams at the service of a fresh and round Mediterranean rosé wine, with notes of raspberries and pears. The owners also own the Lauzade estate (in Côtes de Provence) and the Val d'Arenc estate in Bandol. The grape varieties used for the cuvée are Grenache, Cinsault and Tibouren.

Choosing a Marquis de Terme wine is choosing excellence with one of the oldest Grands Crus Classés.
