Château Paveil de Luze: the story of a single family

Fewer and fewer estates have remained within the same family over the centuries. Yet such is the case with Château Paveil de Luze. Since 1862, seven generations have succeeded one another, passing on the same passion for the vineyard. It was at this time that Baron Alfred de Luze acquired the Paveil estate (dating back to the 12th century). From the estate's 120 hectares, he produced a wine that would become known the world over: Château Paveil Margaux - Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. Unfortunately, the extremely harsh winter of 1956 put the vineyard at risk. Baron Geoffrey de Luze, more motivated than ever to preserve this jewel, decided in 1960 to replant the vineyard, restore the vat room and renovate the cellars.

Since 2004, Frédéric de Luze has been at the helm of the estate. His two sisters help manage the estate, because Château Paveil de Luze remains a family affair. This is what the estate stands for. Château Paveil Luze is not just about wine. Already offering tours and tastings, it is now opening up to wine tourism under the impetus of the new de Luze generation. The stays are tailor-made: art and culture, gastronomy and wines, visits, sport and relaxation...

The exceptional assets of Château Paveil de Luze

The major asset of this estate is the rooting of the vines in a deep gravelly soil and subsoil where Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot flourish. As with the owners, the estate has been run by a succession of cellar masters from the same family. Vinification begins in stainless steel vats and continues in barrels stored in cellars dating back to the 17th century. Here, modernity does not obliterate ancestral traditions. The men share the same history, the same pride of belonging to the estate. The new generation has no qualms about communicating its environmental approach (water management, integrated cultivation, etc.), a necessary awareness that's right up with the times.

The reds and whites of Château Paveil de Luze

Some Château Paveil de Luze red wines from the Cuvée Margaux are distinguished by the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel appellation. Depending on the vintage, this appellation can be kept for between 20 and 35 years. This cuvée is made from three grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It's a balanced, subtle wine with notes of truffles and red fruit. The domaine also produces Bordeaux wines. The "Petit Paveil" red Bordeaux cuvée is made from equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It can be kept for 3 to 6 years. As for "Paveil de Luze" in white Bordeaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc): this is not a wine for laying down, and is best consumed quickly.
