The winemaker

The History of the Pedesclaux Castle

The Chateau Pédesclaux estate was founded in 1810, by Pierre Urbain Pédesclaux who was already a famous Bordeaux wine broker. From then on, he never stopped enlarging his vineyard with new plots, notably those of the neighboring Grand Puy estate. After his death, his widow took over the management until 1891.

Château Pédesclaux changed owners several times during the 20th century. Since 2009, it belongs to the Lorenzetti family who decided to renovate the estate in depth. The vineyard is completely restructured, especially since its surface is almost doubled, going from 26 to 48 hectares, thanks to the acquisition of Chateau Haut-Milon in 2009, then Chateau Béhéré in 2013.

The castle is renovated, as well as the wine processing and maturing tool. A new cellar is built, with 100% gravity.

The Chateau Pedesclaux vineyard

The vineyard now has nearly 50 hectares in the Pauillac appellation. The terroir has 19 different soil types. The soil is deep gravel, partially mixed with clay and limestone.

The vineyard is managed in organic agriculture and some parcels in biodynamic. The vineyard is planted with 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is 35 years and the oldest date back to 1950.

Cabernet Sauvignon is selected to give the wine structure, Merlot brings its roundness, while Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot participate in the wine's aromatic complexity.

The wines of Château Pédesclaux

The Château Pédesclaux estate produces two red wines:

Chateau Pédesclaux, grand vin, grand cru classé 1855, Pauillac appellation

The first wine of Château Pédesclaux is like the terroir from which it comes, i.e. complex. The wine is a blend of 59% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. It benefits from the clays that sublimate its power and the gravels that give it all its elegance.

Château Pédesclaux is dense and voluptuous. The nose is full of fruity flavors, notably black currant and violets, backed by cigar box aromas. The wine expresses silky tannins and stands out as an excellent wine for aging.

Fleur de Pédesclaux, second wine, Pauillac appellation

The estate's second wine, Fleur Pédesclaux, is composed of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. The wine is greedy and particularly airy. The Merlot gives it sweetness and the Cabernet Sauvignon structures it to better express its intense, crisp and flavorful fruit flavors.

The nose is powerful, with flavors of violets and small red fruits. The palate is fresh and supple, with smooth tannins and a high quality finish. An excellent wine for aging, it gains white flower aromas with time.
