The winemaker
This wine estate was founded in 1972 in Saint Estèphe in the Medoc, and has belonged to the Lagneaux family since 1983. At its origins, the vineyard was only two hectares, but today it covers 90 plots of land on nearly 20 hectares.
Its wines are regularly cited in specialized magazines such as the Revue des Vins de France or Bettane et Desseauve and, since 2009, they are recognized Cru Supérieur Bourgeois in the classification of the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc.
The property is located in Gironde. At its creation by Francis Souquet, the vineyard extended over two places called "Marbuzet" and "Le Puy''. This experienced winegrower, a great expert of the Medoc terroirs, immediately saw the potential of these parcels and from the very first vintages, the quality of the Petit Bocq wines was noticed by the experts.
Bought in 1993 by Gaëtan Lagneaux, the domain will develop with the acquisition of new parcels to reach its current size. The vineyard is mainly composed of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is currently managed by Jacques Lagneaux, Gaëtan's father following his untimely death in 2012.
The vineyard of Château Petit Bocq is made up of a mosaic of plots that stretch from Saint Corbian on the northern part of the appellation to Cos on its southern end. It covers a great diversity of soils and offers to the vines a multitude of subsoils and exposure. The terroirs of the Médoc are characterized by the presence of gravel or clay. These soils give a singular signature to the wines of the appellation, recognizable among all and this rich palette gives a great variety of nuances and aromas to the vintages of the domain.
The vine is cultivated with traditional techniques adapted, according to the specificities of each plot, to limit as much as possible human interventions whether they are curative or preventive.
The microbial life of the soil is preserved and the estate favors natural methods, respecting the natural environment. It has received the HVE High Environmental Value and Terra Vitis certifications in recognition of its commitment to environmental protection.
The harvest is done manually when the fruit is "ripe" to obtain fresh and complex wines. The mosaic of parcels making up the Château Petit Bocq vineyard imposes a specific picking for each one and the implementation of a daily picking program.
In the cellar, the harvests of each lot are vinified separately. The aging is also done separately and the blending of the Château Petit Bocq is done afterwards. It allows us to make a unique wine, perfectly expressing the characteristics and aromas of its vintage and appellation.
Since 2010, a second cuvée is elaborated, from two new parcels in AOC Pauillac, Lagneaux in Pauillac.
