The winemaker
A long history of quality
The estate has been producing top-quality wines for over a century, and gained its letters of nobility in the 1930s when it was elevated to Cru Bourgeois status. A renowned family property until 1987, it was then acquired by the Axa Millésimes group and entered a new phase of qualitative development. Modernized, the estate was enlarged and reorganized in 2001 with the acquisition of the adjacent Domaine de La Tour Pibran. In 2003, it became a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.
A traditional terroir and an exceptional vineyard
Set on a clay-limestone Graves hilltop, the estate extends over 17 hectares planted with Merlot, Cabernet-sauvignon and Petit-verdot. Integrated production" respects the environment, and the grapes are harvested by hand. Selected grapes are matured using traditional methods in the modernized facilities of neighboring Château Baron Pichon.
The wines of Château Pibran
The estate's first wine is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur with long ageing potential (ten to twenty years depending on the vintage). On the nose, it characterizes its terroir with aromas of cedar and blackberry. On the palate, it adopts a softer character than its appellation neighbors, thanks to a slightly greater emphasis on Merlot. The second wine, La tour de Pibran, is a more typical, full-bodied Cru Bourgeois.
