The winemaker

The Producer

Six generations have succeeded each other since 1859 at the head of the vineyard with the same objective, the improvement of the wines of Chateau Siran to achieve excellence. The entire estate comprises 88 hectares, much of which is grassland and woodland, to preserve the biodiversity of the site.

Directed since 2007 by Edouard Miailhe, the vineyard is composed of 25 hectares in the Margaux appellation, cultivated in sustainable agriculture, 11 hectares in the Bordeaux appellation and two in Haut-Médoc. Some parcels of the estate are over a century old. The grape varieties are Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These grape varieties produce elegant and balanced wines, worthy of the great wines of Margaux, with aromas of spices and red fruits.

Since 2018, some parcels are grown organically and the entire property benefits from responsible viticulture, with work adapted to the specificities of each parcel. This work is carried out in the continuation of the choices made by previous generations, prioritizing quality over quantity and with a moderate use of chemicals.

Its terroir benefits from an ideal geology, between three great classified growths, on the plateau of Labarde and a perfect climate for the cultivation of the vine, in the south of the Medoc.

Ethics and know-how

The practices put in place have enabled the company to obtain the High Environmental Value certification. Thus, the grape harvest is done by hand, a rigorous selection of the best grapes is carried out with the sorting of the berries before and after de-stemming and overall, the idea is to limit as much as possible the unnecessary interventions.

In addition, Château Siran participates in the VITINNOV program with other Margaux winegrowers. The objective is to revitalize the biodiversity of this exceptional terroir, by adopting practices such as replanting hedges and trees, using endemic seeds, fallowing, using late mowing or creating green corridors near the vineyards.

In addition, Edouard Miailhe has chosen specific plantings and rootstocks adapted to cope with hotter summers. The vineyard team has indeed been trying for several years now, to anticipate the effects of climate change, which penalize so many vineyards in Bordeaux, but which still spare Chateau Siran thanks to the favorable climate of the Labarde plateau.

Finally, regular investments are made in a constant search for quality and the estate has state-of-the-art facilities.

Siran wines, a potential for long ageing

Château Siran is an exceptional vintage, the fruit of a blend of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. It is a wine with spicy notes thanks in particular to Petit Verdot.

S de Siran is made from vines on the same gravel plateau as Chateau Siran, but it is made from younger vines and a blend in which Merlot predominates. It is a complex, yet fine wine.

Bel air de Siran is a fresh and elegant wine with black currant and licorice aromas, made from parcels in the Haut-Médoc appellation.

Saint Jacques de Siran is a great Bordeaux wine, with flavors of wild strawberries, vanilla and black cherry.
