The winemaker

Le Domaine Lafite,exceptional wines.


Known as a medieval Seigneurie since the 14th century, this vineyard gained its reputation as a great wine estate with the Ségur family around 1670. The estate has been recognized as a premier cru classé since the official 1855 Classification des grands vins de Bordeaux. The estate now covers 178 hectares and features two varieties: Château Lafite Rotschild 1er grand cru classé and Carruades de Lafite. Both varieties share the same grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The rare distinction of "Premier Grand Cru" is shared with few other châteaux, such as Margaux, Latour, Mouton Rotschild and Haut-Brion. Its wine is considered one of the most prestigious and famous Bordeaux wines in the world.
