The winemaker
The history of the Château Rieussec starts when it is built by the monks of Cam Langon, in the eighteenth century. Bought much later by M.Mayen, it is he who will raise the ranks of Premier Cru Classé of Sauternes and Barsac. The castle will find its equal than 1984, when it was bought by the Barons de Rothschild. They then put a up a new wine to regain the greatness of its wines, becoming in 2004 the wine of the year by WineSpectator. By its sheer size of 93 hectares, the vineyard has reinvented itself while providing the best flavors of the appellation.
