The winemaker

A history strongly marked by family traditions

The Château Potensac estate has been passed down from generation to generation within the same family since it was founded (a long time ago). The estate is located in the commune of Ordonnac, at the heart of a rich territory of high-quality soils. These give the wine excellent predispositions for ageing. Château Potensac is located close to the river, but in the highlands of Nord-Médoc. The name Médoc itself comes from the appellation "medio aquae", meaning "in the middle of the waters". It is in this typical environment that the vines, over 30 years old, flourish, thanks to the care of passionate and qualified oenologists.

Château Potensac: a terroir as rich as it is generous

Château Potensac has a vineyard covering over 55 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard's terroir is characterized by a limestone subsoil covered with clay-limestone hillocks. These hilltops are also marked by a high proportion of gravel, similar to the terroir of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Château Potensac produces its wines under the Médoc appellation d'origine contrôlée. The subtle aroma and deep taste of the liqueurs produced by the estate's oenologists reflect the expertise of the estate's oenologists. Combining traditional methods with manual harvesting, the winemakers take care to integrate all the assets of the vine into each bottle. The wine is aged in barrels for 14 to 16 months. The result is a generous production that ages well.

Chateau Potensac wines: between power and delicacy

Château Potensac wines are marked by a fine or tight texture and, what's more, display great richness and pure harmony. This is partly due to the high percentage of Cabernet Franc in the wine. These wines are also characterized by a pure, energetic mouthfeel and dense, lifted tannins. The depth of each color and the power of the aromas have earned Château Potensac the exceptional title of "representative of pure Médoc style". The estate's wines are thus among the major crus of the Médoc appellation. In addition to Château Potensac wines, the estate also produces another wine under the name "La Chapelle de Potensac". This wine is characterized by exceptional freshness, reminiscent of red fruit and the sweetness of the summer months. This wine was classified "Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel" in the 2003 Médoc appellation classification.
