The winemaker

The history of the Chateau Gloria estate

Chateau Gloria is one of the exceptions among the great chateaux of the Medoc. While almost all of them have a multi-century history, Château Gloria was born in 1942. Henri Martin, a cooper of the region as was already his father, began by buying a 6-hectare plot belonging to Château Beychevelle.

Over the years, he enriched his estate with the acquisition of new plots, all from the famous châteaux of the Saint Julien appellation. The estate now covers 44 hectares. At the same time, Henri Martin took an interest in local life and the development of his profession.

He was involved in public life and became mayor of Saint Julien, as well as president of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bordeaux. Upon his death in 1991, it was his daughter and her husband, Jean-Louis Triaud, who took over the management of Château Gloria.

The Château Gloria vineyard

The vineyard of Chateau Gloria today covers 50 hectares, mostly made up of terroirs of classified growths, some of the most prestigious. The soil is clay-gravel and made up of Günzian gravel. It is spread over 3 distinct areas: in the center of Beychevelle, in the west and in the north of the appellation, on the border of Pauillac.

The grape varieties are 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The estate is run with the greatest respect for the environment. The grapes are harvested manually. The grapes are then carefully selected, before being vinified in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and continued in oak barrels for an average of 14 months.

The wines of Château Gloria

The wines of Chateau Gloria reflect well the typicality of the wines of Saint Julien which offer an intense and complex aromatic palette. They display a ruby color with a deep density. They are fine and elegant wines, whose fruits that dominate the nose are blueberry, blackcurrant and blackberry.

Depending on the vintage, the other flavors are more less embodied, which allows to alternate the aromas of prune, tobacco or licorice. Over time, pleasant tertiary aromas such as leather, fur, venison or truffle appear.

Chateau Gloria - Saint Julien Rouge

Chateau Gloria - Saint Julien Rouge reflects the typical characteristics of the Saint Julien appellation, with a unique elegance and a great capacity for aging. As it ages, the wine gains maturity which it expresses through exceptional aromatic complexity. The wine has a perfect balance with a robust structure. It gives off a powerful bouquet of blackberries and cedar.

Spirit of Gloria

The red wine Esprit de Gloria is the second wine of the property. It is produced from the youngest vines on the Chateau Gloria estate. Just as typical of the wines of Saint Julien, it can be enjoyed earlier than its elder brother. The palate is ample and opulent, with finely grained tannins, all velvety. The nose is powerful and fruity.
